I am more or less finished with the Great Computer Upgrade of 2008. This event entailed installing a Q6600 quadcore, accompanying motherboard, 4 gigs of memory, and a 9600GT graphics card in my gaming rig, to replace an aging 3.2 Ghz Prescott with 2 gigs and a 7800GT. Those older parts went into H’s formerly blue-screen-prone machine so she will be able to play the upcoming Sims 3, as well as Spore, without issue. For my part, I’m looking forward to Fallout 3, GTA 4, Stalker: Clear Sky, and Far Cry 2, which the new rig should be well capable of handling now. I’ve been throwing the most demanding games I have at it, such as Bioshock, Crysis, Flatout 3, and Stalker, and it simply refuses to stutter. It also runs very cool, about 30C. I’m quite pleased, and I hope it will last two years like the last build.
